Valentine's Day, February 14, 2010:
We are doing a simple Valentine's Day project this year.

Ingredients:
Bright colored construction paper (particularly red and pink but any bright color will do)
Beads
Buttons
Cut up colored straw pieces about 1/4 to 1/2 inches long
Markers, colored pencils or crayons
Glue
Scissors

If you take an 8 and 1/2 x 11 sheet of construction paper and fold it long ways, you can cut out 2 hearts about the size of your hand. If you cut out a square piece of paper in a different color slightly larger than the heart, you can glue the heart to the square. It gives the heart added strength for glueing buttons etc on it. Also, the contrasting colors look neat.

Use the beads, buttons and cut up straw pieces to decorate your heart, or use the markers, crayons or colored pencils to decorate it.

These make wonderful inexpensive homemade Valentine's cards, and the kids enjoy making them. It also gives us the opportunity to talk about what Valentine's Day is, what the heart symbolizes, and how we can be kind and love others as Christians with our children.

Enjoy.
